奧莉亞〈邀請〉Oriah, "Invitation" (1999)

奧莉亞‧浩斯 (Oriah House) 是加拿大女詩人，以 Oriah 或 Oriah Mountain Dream 為筆名。曾出版 The Invitation 一書 (中文由李永平譯為《心靈邀約》，雙月書屋，2000年)。這首詩常被轉載為〈印地安長老的一段話〉。

It doesn't interest me / What you do for a living. 
I want to know / What you ache for
And if you dare to dream / Of meeting your heart's longing.
你做什麼維生 / 我並不感興趣。
我想知道的是 / 你痛心渴求些什麼
而你是否敢勇於追夢 / 成就你心之所向？

It doesn't interest me / How old you are.
I want to know / If you will risk / Looking like a fool
For love / For your dream / For the adventure of being alive.

什麼行星 / 刑剋著你的月亮星座 / 我並不感興趣。
我想知道的是 / 你是否曾觸碰 / 你那私密的悔恨核心
你是否打開心扉 / 去面對生命中的種種背叛
還是變得退縮封閉 / 遠離那又被深深傷害的恐懼。

squaring，原形動詞為 square，在占星學的相位 (aspect) 中，指的是兩個行星形成90度的位置，也就是相剋；moon 在占星學中指的是月亮星座，代表一個人的潛意識，也就是從小所受的影響而造成的長大後所產生的內心感受和行為。也因此此一詩節所提到的主題是和內在所承受過的傷害有關。

Without moving to hide it / Or fade it / Or fix it.
我想知道 / 你是否能對痛苦處之泰然 / 我的痛或你的痛
而不要起身把它藏起 / 或是淡漠遺忘 / 或是彌補解決。

I want to know / If you can live with failure / Yours and mine 
And still stand at the edge of the lake / And shout to the silver of the full moon,
"Yes."

It doesn't interest me / Where or what or with whom / You have studied.
I want to know / What sustains you / From the inside / When all else falls away.
你在哪唸了書或是唸了什麼 / 或是和誰學了東西 / 我並不感興趣。
我想知道的是 / 當一切的一切都疏離遠去 / 什麼東西從內心支撐著你。

I want to know / If you can be alone / With yourself 
And if you truly like / The company you keep / In the empty moments.

而你是否真心喜歡 / 你所擁有的陪伴 / 在那些空無一人的時光裡。
